Next up, we have Billy Lo in our #ArtsinthePark dancers series. He first performed in #ArtsinthePark in 2010, when he was part of YAF’s all male dance group Menace. He has since performed in two other pieces See It and Surrealism by Giselle Liu. This year, he performed in two additional pieces by Giselle, Where the Wild Things Are at Night and Perfect Creatures! What can we say, our choreographer loves Billy!

I loved… everything that I came across, especially my AMAZING YAFie family. I am truly touched by the pure happiness that I saw on everyone’s faces, and the way how each and everyone of us shares the same love and passion for dancing.

I learned… how to think out-of-the-box, and ways to improve my dance technique. It also made me realise that there is a lot to learn in life. Be humble, listen to the other’s suggestions… you will definitely get more than you can imagine.

I am going to miss… the songs we danced to. The songs witnessed how our group grew from individuals to a big warm family, they witnessed our team growing from dancing without rapport, to stage performances where we could really feel what others were feeling and think what others were thinking. To me, the song is the most treasurable memory. Our dance starts when the the song begins to play, and ends when the music stops.

I smile when I think back to…the days when I started dancing with all the YAFies. The extent to which I feel thankful for having being given all these chances to perform isn't something that I can easily describe with words, but it is true, I am so proud to be one of this family. I am also slightly puzzled (and laugh when I think about this) by how I’ve ended up becoming the one who does a lot of the lifting in the dances. I seldom go to the gym, as it is boring.. I had no idea that I could do something so awesome as such.

Challenges? I think we can probably find all sorts of challenges whenever, wherever we are. But I think the most difficult thing is to know how to exceed our own limitations and abilities, to dance with better technique, to learn with an open mind and to become a better person.

Apart from that, I would say the process of building trust within the group is also a challenge. As when some dancers aren’t really familiar with each other, and prefer to stay within their private space or comfort zone, it makes the dance harder to perform - there is a missing connection between the performers.

What’s next…? Keep on dancing! Keep on chasing my dreams!

My dream superpower is… to have the ability that allows me to learn everything in just a flash and to be able to practice everything that I acquire in life.

If I could meet an artist for a day, it would be… definitely be me, myself. I am the artist who creates and shapes whom I am, spiritually and physically. I believe it would be quite an interesting experience for a person to be able to question and talk to himself/herself in person.
